8th September

Numbers of warblers and chats both dropped off a little today and with a similar weather pattern for the next few days we can expect further reductions in numbers during the week.

Today's highlights included two Common and two Black Redstarts, two Whinchats, three Wheatears and  a single Stonechat.

Chiffchaffs had reduced to 27 from over 90 the day before with only a single Willow Warbler seen. 38 Blackcaps, nine Lesser Whitethroats, five Whitethroats were recorded.

Overhead Siskins continued to move but again most were unseen and while a majority were going North-East as in previous days, a few today seemed to be heading in a more logical Southerly/Westerly direction. Also overhead there were four Grey Wagtails, about 20 Meadow Pipits, 300 Swallows and a single Swift.

At least one Hobby and two Sparrowhawks were seen.  A group of seven Ravens shortly after dawn were noteworthy.

50 species recorded.
