31st August

A welcome respite from the strong Northerly winds but despite good coverage the results were disappointing. Highlights included a single Pied Flycatcher in the clifftop bushes, 3 Whinchat ( 2 Gun Emplacement and one near the golf course) and a Gropper near Hope Point.  Warblers counted included; 6 Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff, 6 Blackcaps, 16 Whitethroats and 6 Lesser Whitethroats. 

Overhead single Green Sandpiper and Golden Plover, 39 Siskins, 2 Crossbills, 7 Yellow Wagtails and 1 Grey Wagtail were the highlights

17th August

 A short visit to the Paddock and Leas produced a Wheatear, Reed Warbler, two Lesser Whitethroats, eight Whitethroats, five Willow Warblers and a Pied Flycatcher. 

16th August

 Around the area were a Hobby, two Wheatears, two Reed Warblers, nine Lesser Whitethroats, 21 Whitethroats, one Blackcap and seven Willow Warblers.

Also two Yellow Wagtails flew NE.

15th August

More birds today of which most were on Kingsdown Lees, Hope Point and a few in the Paddock. We had a Wheatear, a Grasshopper Warbler, four Reed Warblers, 10 Lesser Whitethroats, 25 Whitethroats, a Garden Warbler, five Blackcaps, 23 Willow Warblers, seven Pied Flycatchers (all on the Lees) and a Spotted Flycatcher, Overhead was a single Golden Plover and Tree Pipit.  

14th August

 Today around the area there was a Grasshopper Warbler, a Sedge Warbler, two Reed Warblers, nine Lesser Whitethroats, 13 Whitethroats, eight Blackcaps, five Willow Warblers and a Pied Flycatcher.  Apart from that the only notable thing was a Harbour Porpoise feeding off Hope Point.

13th August

 After some heavy overnight rain we expected more grounded migrants but it was a little disappointing. However there were more than we have had recently with a Cuckoo, Wheatear, Blackcap, 19 Lesser Whitethroats, 31 Whitethroats, two Chiffchaffs, five Willow Warblers, a Spotted Flycatcher and two Pied Flycatchers.

There were very few flyovers with only two Grey Herons, a Golden Plover, a Green Sandpiper, four Crossbills and a Red Kite.

12th August

Another hot day with next to no overhead migration apart from singles of Curlew, Whimbrel, Tree Pipit, six Yellow Wagtails and five Crossbills. Grounded migrants were 12 Reed Warblers, six Lesser Whitethroats, 15 Whitethroats, two Blackcaps and four Willow Warblers. In the Freedown there were 14 Yellowhammers consisting of two separate family parties. 

11th August

Another day with a few but interesting birds. Along at Little Green was a Pied Flycatcher and at Hope Point a Spotted Flycatcher. Elsewhere were four Tree Pipits, two Whinchats and 19 Crossbills flying NE over the Paddock.

In the afternoon a Grey Plover flew over Kingsdown.

 

10th August

 A few more birds today with a Green Sandpiper and two Golden Plovers,  six Yellow Wagtails, singles of  Wheatear, Whinchat and Reed Warbler, three Lesser Whitethroats, 15 Whitethroats and three Willow Warblers.

9th August

There were four Whitethroats and yesterday's Nightingale still in the Paddock but apart from that the only thing of any note was a Buzzard and three Ravens having a squabble over the big field.

8th August

 Very few birds today apart from  a Green Sandpiper, 100 Swifts moving SW, two Yellow Wagtails, a Reed Warbler and a showy Nightingale found in the Paddock by Gerald. There was also a Hobby at Pond Lane.

6th August

Much calmer day with very few birds. I did the Paddock, Phil did the entire area and between us we had three Grey Partridges, two Blackcaps, four Lesser Whitethroats, 43 Whitethroats and nine Willow Warblers.

 A single Golden Plover was present at Pond Lane.

Very windy day with a few birds of which most notable were four Sand Martins, three Wheatears, a Reed Warbler and 29 Whitethroats.

4th August

With clear cloudless skies the morning didn't offer too much promise and it was fairly quiet early on. Things picked up as we walked the clifftop and flushed the first Short-eared Owl of the autumn. A Wheatear appeared on the clifftop and a Whinchat was found in the Freedown. Both these birds were seen later at the Monument. Two Grasshopper Warblers were found in the rough along the golf course. Other warblers included six Reed, 11 Willow, one Chiffchaff, four Lesser Whitethroats, five Blackcaps and 20 Whitethroats. A very early Firecrest was seen at Hope Bay Studios. It was a very tatty adult and may have been a local breeding birds. Very little noted overhead apart from a single Siskin.

3rd August

A good selection of warblers this morning with nine Reed Warblers at Hope Point being the highlight. Other warblers included seven Willow Warblers, two Garden Warblers, six Blackcaps, 10 Lesser Whitethroats & 50 Whitethroats. Ricahrd had a Green Sandpiper over the Golf Course

Overhead there were 14 Yellow Wagtails and two Siskins, while six Mediterranean Gulls past offshore.

26th July

Highlights included 4 Mediterranean Gulls, a single Red Kite. 9 Willow Warblers and the resident/breeding White Wagtail on the golf course. 

Plenty of Skylarks on the clifftop.
